Helping Veterans Solve the Income Equation

Passive Income > Living Expenses

Who I work with:

U.S. military Veterans who are currently serving or have completed their military service who want specific, actionable steps to grow their investments to the point where they can live off of the income generated by those investments.

Veterans pursuing this goal can create wonderful opportunities for themselves, their families, careers, and hobbies.

I Help You:

  • Plan your financial transition out of the military
  • Establish an income and savings plan that will result in your passive income being greater than your living expenses
  • Reduce taxes over the course of your lifetime
  • Fund your children's education
  • Have the right insurance and estate docs in case things go wrong

Planning Principles

  1. Avoid Lifestyle Creep
  2. Save Consistently
  3. Invest for Cash Flow
  4. Manage Realistic Risks
  5. Acknowledge that we can't control everything nor can we plan for every possible outcome.
  6. KEEP IT SIMPLE!!! Simplify the plan until it can't be simplified any further.

People like to complicate their finances and then come up with reasons to justify it.

Investment Philosophy

  • Cash flow is king and the return of cash in the form of interest, dividends, and buybacks are the drivers of investment selection. Relying on price appreciation is essentially hoping that a greater fool than us will pay more for the investment at some point in the future.
  • A global allocation to quality, dividend paying companies that are expected to grow their dividends is the starting point of any portfolio.
  • Price appreciation is the added benefit of owning good companies that are sustainably growing their returns to shareholders. We don't plan for significant price appreciation.
  • Based on risk tolerance and timelines, some debt instruments (e.g. bonds) may be added.

You are always one decision away from a totally different life.

My Philosophy & Military Background

My Philosophy & Military Background

While many paths may lead us to our destination, I usually choose the path less traveled.

I am a contrarian by nature and believe that following the fads and the trends of the day usually leads to disappointment and failure.

A few examples:

  • Most people want a masssive, brand new home. I own a brick home built in the 1880s.
  • While brand-new pickup trucks are the best selling vehicles, I primarily drive a 40-year old european sedan with over 250k miles.
  • Many people strive to be near a big city for all of its entertaining attractions; I prefer the serenity of a farm.
  • When I wasn't getting enough flight time in the Army to advance my career, I bought an airplane and flew it around the country, proving myself as a capable aviator.
  • Instead of getting my MBA and pursuing a corporate career after the Army, I started businesses.

You don't have to go against the grain in every facet of life to work with me. In fact, many of my most successful clients work corporate careers after their military service and have big families by today's standards. But the job is a means to an end... and career success is not the goal outside of helping them provide for their families.

Military Background:

In 8 years of service as an Aviator to the United States Army, I held multiple platoon leader positions and Battalion S1 in the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Riley, KS which included a deployment to Tarin Kowt and Kandahar, Afghanistan. After the career course, I moved to the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade at Fort Hood where, following a stint in the Brigade S3, I took command of an attack recon troop consisting of AH-64 helicopters and Shadow UAVs.

18 months of command included fielding new versions of the Apache helicopter and Shadow UAV and leading the troop through a National Training Center rotation.

My military service ended in July of 2017.
